100Brokers Members voted and we are very pleased to announce that we will be sending a cheque in the amount of $2,700 to The Mellios Family, Recipient of the 3rd Quarter vote of 2020.

We have been introduced to a loving family who reside in Surrey, BC. Mom and Dad own a home along with dad’s parents as to provide the best care for their 12 year old daughter/granddaughter. The daughter, unfortunately, lives with a rare brain disorder. Her condition bounds her to a wheelchair and requires around-the-clock care. The father has taken the role as his daughter’s full-time caregiver and therefore does not earn an income. In order to make-up for the loss of income, the mother works full-time plus as much overtime as she can earn. I would like to also mention that the mother is a Registered Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit at a lower mainland hospital. She works around the clock to support the family but misses her daughter dearly as she spends more time at the hospital than at home.

We would like to nominate this local family to 100 Brokers Who Care. We believe that donations provided by our mortgage broker community will have a significant impact on the family and help to alleviate some stress. We want them to have the ability to focus on caring and loving their daughter rather than losing sleep worrying about unpaid bills or the cost of upcoming medical related expenses.

Thank you to Jared Dreyer for bringing this Cause to our attention.

Nomination Story
As discussed, we have a family who could really use help from the mortgage broker community. I am going to refrain from using names at this time but I’m sure the family would be okay to come forward if they were lucky enough to be selected.

In speaking with the mother, it was immediately evident that she/they do not want to be seen as victims. In the words of the mother, they were dealt a difficult hand but accept the responsibility and duty to do the best they can for their daughter and for the family as a whole.

Unfortunately, they have incurred an exorbitant amount of expenses related to the daughter’s worsening condition. They have invested tens of thousands of dollars into retrofitting the home, purchasing new medical equipment, buying medications, and paying for after surgery expenses not covered by the province.

This is a family that has had to incur so many expenses, changes to their lives and sacrificed as I think many of us would for our children.

If you are a mortgage broker in Canada who has not yet joined our membership or you know someone who should join, we’d love to have you. Learn more here about what that looks like.
